Ruth Marie Lynch, born November 3, 1941, died peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on July 23, 2026.
Born and raised in Germantown, she attended Raven Hill Academy in East Falls in 1959. After Raven Hill, she attended Chestnut Hill College and later worked as a healthcare technician.
In 1965, Ruth met the love of her life Edward Lynch at the Avalon Hotel and the rest was history. Married in 1967, Ruth and Ed moved to Lafayette Hill and raised 4 children, Edward Jr. and Jessica Lynch, Jennifer, Stephen and Jennifer Lynch, and Monica and Joseph Sharkey. Her children were the center of her universe, and her grandchildren could do no wrong.
Emily, Bridget, Grace, Julia and Daniel Guicheteau, Carly, Brandon, Andrew, Katie and Kiera Lynch, Sean, William, Finnegan and Luke Sharkey loved their Mimi immensely and they all will miss her greatly.
Ruth lost Ed early, in 1995, at the young age of 56. While God held a different plan for her, Ruth spent the next 30 plus years living life to the fullest. She attended every game and event for her grandchildren, attended mass regularly at St Genevieve and St. Philip Neri, loved the theatre and the beach and could often be found at Book Club with her besties and spending quality time with all her loved ones. A later-in-life fantasy football legend, Ruth was especially current on all teen trends and was the easiest place to land after a hard day.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents John and Ruth Smith (McIntyre), and her sister-in-law Josie Lynch (Fitzpatrick). She is survived by her brothers Mark (Cathy) and Greg Smith (Patricia), her brother-in-law Jack Lynch, her children and her grandchildren. Ruth and Ed are now reunited in heaven, catching up on 30 years of lost time, having dinner and drinking a Schaefer beer (because there are no beer allergies in heaven).
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 11:00 AM, St. Philip Neri Church, 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA, where friends will be received from 9:30 AM until the time of mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, 620 West Germantown Pike, Suite 150, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462 (https://fpsrespite.org/)
