Patrica Andes was born during a snow storm the night of February 20, 1934. Pat was the only child of George Andes and Catherine Markle Andes. Driving Catherine thru the blizzard and up the hill to York General Hospital was a tough task. George made it just in time for the premature birth. Pat always said that was why she loved cold weather.
Her father on occasion would call her Patsy, but to everyone else it was Pat. She was baptized Presbyterian. She joined 2 stepsisters Dorothy and Lavina, and a step brother Richard in an old farm house that had no inside plumbing, just outside the city of York on the east side.
The family moved into town a few years later. Her father became a furrier, made coats, and opened a store in York. Pat attended public school and worked in the successful family business that was on Market Street, near the York town square and court house. A summer Bible school teacher at summer camps in her early teens, she was a proud alumnus of William Penn Senior High School York PA Class of 1952. She attended every reunion they held, including the 70th and final one in 2022. Pat met Tony Briscella in Atlantic City summer of 1956. They were married April 27, 1957. 2 people from 2 entirely different worlds. Pat who’s family traces back to before the Revolutionary War. Filled with German, Dutch, English, French ancestors. And Tony whose parents emigrated from Italy in the early 20th century.
Tony was a Philadelphia Police officer 4 years when they married. They began made their life together in Port Richmond neighborhood in Philadelphia. They moved to Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia in 1962 and raised 2 sons Anthony and George. Extroverted, opionated, supportive and loyal to family. She held strong opions but was never judegmental. She had a passion for shopping. Pat was a generous person with time and treasure. She bandaged the neighborhood kids scrapes from the wall-to-wall concrete of the city. She nursed other people’s pets back to health. She was such a good cook, most people thought she was Italian. She learned to cook from her mother-in-law Louisa, and held large Sunday pasta dinners for over 40 years. And all were welcome, no matter what time you arrived.
She was thrilled to watch her family grow to include 6 grandsons, and 10 great grandchildren. Always supportive and proud of them all. A very strong women, she took incredible care of her Parkinson afflicted husband Tony for over 20 years. After his passing in 2015, she lived on her own for 7 years, then moved to Flourtown 2022 after the tragic loss of her son George. After a short illness, she passed peacefully at Rydal Park on Thursday September 25, 2025.
Predeceased by husband of 57 years , Anthony “Tony” Briscella, and son George ( Jean Marie), she is survived by Anthony Jr. (Trish), Grandchildren Anthony George (Gina), Anthony III (Caralyn), John, Michael ( Alyssa), Nicholas, Anthony ( Caralyn), Joseph (Gina ). Great grandchildren Anthony Nicholas, Vanessa, Michael, Gianna, Michael, Grace, Ava , Anthony IV, Emily, and Grace.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 11AM at the John F. Murray Funeral Home, 1220 Bethlehem Pike Flourtown, PA 19031. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing from 10-11AM. Interment will follow the service in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
