Obituary

Mary Ann Harkin, born in County Sligo, Ireland.  Beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many.

Mary met her first husband, Patrick Cavanagh, in Sligo, and they married in Philadelphia.  Soon after, while living in Philadelphia, they gave birth to 3 children, Thomas, Patrick, and Deborah.  Her husband Patrick died very young, leaving Mary with three young children to care for.

She worked at Acme Markets for over 40 years to support her family and life was never easy for Mary, but she always had a smile and a  good, home cooked meal to share.

Mary married again in 1992 to James Harkin, and they were married for  30  years.  Mary and Jim loved to care for and spoil their 2 granddaughters, Shannon and Meghan.

She is preceded in death by Patrick Cavanagh, Thomas Cavanagh, Deborah Cavanagh, and James Harkin, and survived by son Patrick Joseph Cavanagh (Eileen) and granddaughters Shannon Mary Cavanagh and Meghan Cavanagh.

Although we are terribly saddened at the loss of Mary, we are thankful that her pain is over and she can meet again with the loved ones who passed before her.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 14, 2026 at 11AM at John F. Murray Funeral Home 1220 Bethlehem Pike Flourtown, PA 19031.  Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation from 10-11AM.  Interment will be private.

The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed HERE
