Obituary

Margaret “Peggy” A. Cooney (née Nugent), age 69, passed away peacefully after fighting the good fight for as long as she could. She passed in her home in Maple Glen on June 4th, 2026, surrounded by love, with her partner of 27 years, Alexander “Rob” Russell—the love of her life—right beside her.

Born in Philadelphia on September 21st, 1956 to Margaret & Gerald, Peggy lived a life defined by warmth, humor, and a vibrant spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her devoted partner, Alexander “Rob” Russell; her daughters, Tara (Michael) and Devin (Mike); and her beloved grandchildren, Chrissy, Gigi, Travis, and Emma. She is also survived by her siblings, Gerry (Kim), Evie, and Audrey (Mitch) & niece and nephews Megan, William, and Brendan (Rachel).

She was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Gerald, her sister Patricia “Patti,” and her beloved dog Cleo.

Peggy will be remembered for her fun-loving, fearless personality and her unmistakable sense of humor—often unfiltered, sharp-witted, and playfully inappropriate in the best way. She was often the life of the party, never hesitating to be silly, spontaneous, or even do a somersault just to make someone smile. Her energy was magnetic—sometimes a little wild, always full of life, and deeply authentic.

She loved to travel and was always ready for an adventure, no matter how big or small. Peggy made sure she always looked her best, even hiking in heels and a dress, but was the first one to poke fun at herself, especially when it came to her grandkids. She never shied away from her beliefs and always stood firmly by them.

She had a lifelong love of music, especially Neil Young and classic rock. In ode to Neil, “It’s better to burn out than to fade away,” reflects the bold, unforgettable way she lived her life.

Peggy’s love for her family was constant and unconditional. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, stories, and memories that will be cherished forever.

A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, June 11th, 2026.  Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation from 9-11AM at John F. Murray Funeral Home 1220 Bethlehem Pike Flourtown, PA 19031.  A Memorial Service will follow at 11AM.  Interment will be held privately.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved, “to the moon & back to my heart.”
