John T. O'Connor

May 2, 1959 — May 6, 2026

Willow Grove, PA

John "Johnny", 67 years and 4 days old, passed away on May 6, 2026 at Abington Hospital surrounded by loving family and wonderful healthcare workers. He was quite the character: heart of gold, salty, a powerhouse, rough & tough exterior, great guy, one of kind, hardworking. Those words written recently on social media remind us of how truly special he was.

Johnny grew up in the Logan section of Philadelphia; attended Holy Child School and Cardinal Dougherty High School. He was one of 2 boys in a family of 7. Growing up in a large family, one needs to learn how to speak up, and those of us who knew Johnny are certain that he could make himself heard. His booming voice was surpassed by his huge heart and willingness to help others. Though he never received formal training in the "trades," there was not a construction, repair, or renovation project that he would not undertake. Whether it was a family member, neighbor, friend, or friend of a friend who was in need of help, Johnny would be there to offer his expertise and assistance. As his parents and disabled sister grew older, he extended himself physically and emotionally to look after them - a striking example of his loyalty.

For 46 years, Johnny worked at Steve Weiss Music, a musical instrument store specializing in percussion instruments and accessories. He wore many hats during his time there, and over the decades, his co-workers became family and customers became friends. His professionalism and reliability earned him the respect of performers, stagehands, and conductors.

Johnny loved all Philadelphia sports. He was a long time Flyers and Eagles fan and always enjoyed watching hockey games with friends from work and his beloved cats.

He is survived by his sisters Anne Weaver, Helen Markee (Joe), Mary (John Tucker), Sara Jane Neal (William) and sister-in-law MaryEllen OConnor. Nephews Brad Milici (Erika), Joseph Milici, and Kevin OConnor (Leyla). Nieces Jackie McKay, Jessica Adams (Sibtain), and Leah Tucker. Great niece Colleen and his great nephews Carson, Nico, Desi and Robby. Johnny is predeceased by his brother Frank, sister Cathy, nephew Brian Markee, and brother-in-law John Weaver.
