Janet M. Maher

Janet M. Maher, cherished wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025. Born on January 8, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the youngest child of the late Joseph and Dorothy Runzer. She is predeceased by her beloved siblings, John (Nancy still alive) and Sally (Joseph).

Janet was a proud graduate of Saint Athanasius School, and Little Flower Catholic High School, Class of 1958. She continued her education at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park graduating in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and started her career in education immediately following her return to Philadelphia. 

Having known her future husband, Lawrence "Larry" Maher, previously, the two reconnected as adults, began dating, and were married on April 11, 1964. The couple relocated to Lake Hiawatha in Northern New Jersey for Larry's career in sales. Janet soon returned to the classroom, dedicating 32 of her life to teaching in the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District, where she touched the lives of countless students and families. 

Throughout her life, the Jersey Shore held a special place in Janet's heart. From working summers as a teen to purchasing the family's cherished Sea Isle City home on 75th Street in 1972, the Shore became the backdrop for decades of laughter, gatherings, and unforgettable memories. Janet's home was a haven of warmth and welcome. No matter how many friends, family or visitors arrived, Janet took it all in stride, greeting everyone with love ---and often putting them to work as soon as she learned their name.   

In retirement, Janet and Larry fulfilled their dreams of moving permanently to Sea Isle City, where they enjoyed traveling the world together, sharing adventures with friends, family, and one another.  

Janet is survived by her devoted husband, Lawrence Sr; her loving children Bonnie (Tim), Stacey (Matthew DECEASED) and Lawrence Jr. (Kim); her adoring grandchildren Keegan, Cullen, Keeley, Chelsea, Ryan, Gavin and Emma along with many extended relatives and friends whose lives she touched.   

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Monday, November 24th, 2025 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Katharine of Siena Catholic Church, 104 South Aberdeen Avenue, Wayne, Pennsylvania. Her Funeral Mass will follow. Interment will be private.
