James M. Coll

April 10, 1945 — August 6, 2025

Oreland, Pennsylvania

James Michael Coll, affectionately known as “Sid” to those closest to him, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the age of 80.

Jim was the devoted husband of Victoria (Murphy) Coll, his beloved wife of 58 years. He was a loving and supportive father to Jim Coll, Brian (Christy) Coll, and Kati (John) Dougherty. Above all, he was a proud and doting grandfather to nine grandchildren: Finn, Liam, Annie, Molly, Jack, Charlie, Luke, Emily, and Bodhi.

He was the cherished son of the late Jim and Eleanor (Boyce) Coll and is survived by his loving sisters, Mary Cullinan and Denise Madden, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A lifelong Philadelphia sports enthusiast, Jim was raised in the city and began his education at Immaculate Conception School before attending La Salle College High School. There, he distinguished himself both academically and athletically, earning All-Catholic honors in football. He was a proud member of the 1960 football team, later inducted into the Explorers Hall of Fame.

Jim went on to earn a master’s degree in education and built a fulfilling professional life. He began his career with New York Life Insurance, where he worked for 23 years before transitioning into public service with Montgomery County Children and Youth. His passion for helping children and youth started early, through his college work with the Philadelphia Department of Recreation. Throughout his life, Jim remained deeply involved in youth sports—as a coach, referee, and umpire. In retirement, he continued that commitment, dedicating 25 years as the official timer and scorekeeper for various teams at Springfield Township High School.

A dedicated golfer, Jim was a proud member of Sandy Run Country Club for over 55 years. When not on the course, he could be found in the stands, cheering on his children and grandchildren at countless sporting events. He was a constant presence and tireless supporter—never missing a game.

Jim’s legacy of love, commitment, and loyalty will live on through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
