Dennis F. Whalen, 71, of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025. Born November 7, 1953, in Philadelphia, he was the beloved son of the late Fenton and Jean Whalen.
Dennis grew up in Germantown and later on the Erdenheim Farm in Flourtown. He was a graduate of Saint Benedict’s Elementary School and Frankford High School. He dedicated 50 years of his professional life to Acme Markets, where he served as a produce manager and was admired for his strong work ethic and the care he showed to both customers and coworkers.
A lifelong Philadelphian, Dennis had a deep love for the city’s sports teams. He rarely missed an Eagles or Phillies game, celebrating their highs and commiserating their lows with family and friends. His home was often filled with the timeless music of Frank Sinatra, especially during family gatherings and Sunday afternoons.
Dennis leaves behind his wife of many years, Lynne; his son, Kevin, and daughter-in-law, Janis; and his adored granddaughters, Emery and Noelle, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his brother, Fenton Whalen (Marie), and his sister, Jeannie Joyce (Vince); many nieces and nephews; and he is reunited in peace with his brother, Joseph (Kathy).
A Visitation to celebrate Dennis’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at John F. Murray Funeral Home, 1218 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA 19031. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Montgomery County SPCA.
