Dave’s journey through life was marked by an uncommon kindness, a generous heart, and a boundless devotion to those he treasured.

David C. Auxer, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, in Flourtown, PA, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Born on April 19, 1967, at Lankenau Hospital, Dave’s journey through life was marked by an uncommon kindness, a generous heart, and a boundless devotion to those he treasured.

From an early age, Dave’s roots were deeply planted in the nurturing embrace of his family. Growing up under the guidance of his mother, Marlene Auxer, and father, William Auxer, Dave’s love for life blossomed alongside his siblings— William and Greg. In these close relationships, Dave’s laughter, humor, and steadfast loyalty shone brightly, creating bonds that would carry through a lifetime of shared stories and cherished memories.

A proud alumnus of Our Mother of Divine Providence and Archbishop Carroll High School, Dave later graduated with a degree in Mathematics from Villanova University. His education laid the groundwork for a career as a systems analyst at Towers Perrin and Prudential, where his intelligence, dedication, and calm approach left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.

But it was the quieter moments that defined Dave. Marriage to Anne Johnston marked the beginning of his most cherished chapter, raising their daughters, Mae and Cora. He delighted in watching his girls grow and learn. He enjoyed attending his girls’ activities, taking genuine pride in cheering them on from the sidelines, ever the loving father invested deeply in their joys and pursuits.

Friends recall Dave as the most loyal companion, quick with a joke or a story, his infectious warmth making any gathering brighter. He knew how to show he cared.  He was a great listener and always asked what is going on in other's lives.  He would ask about you before you would have a chance to ask about him.  Dave was at home on the diamond with his men’s softball teams, ever enthusiastic about fantasy baseball (pouring an unreasonable amount of strategy into his teams each year) and fantasy football with lifelong friends and never missed a chance to watch Villanova basketball or catch a Phillies game. Summers at the ocean—the soft sands of Ocean City, MD, or the breezy escape of Avalon, NJ with friends—became sacred traditions, woven into the very fabric of his family’s collective memory.

Dave nourished a spirit of adventure, one that led him on hiking and camping trips, on journeys through Europe with friends, and on a treasured 2022 trip to Italy, when the Auxer family explored and relaxed together in the wake of Covid lockdown. Dave was a history buff, he found stories wherever he traveled, each tale adding to his own tapestry of experiences.

Always active in the community, in his younger years Dave was an Eagle Scout whose commitment to service never faltered. He was a dedicated volunteer with school activities, and gave his time to the Home at Last dog rescue group, living by the conviction that generosity was best expressed through action.

Those who knew Dave will forever remember his kindness, down-to-earth nature, and the encompassing love he gave to friends and family.

Even during the most difficult days of his battle with cancer, his compassion never wavered. His infusion nurses looked forward to seeing him because he always greeted them with warmth, gratitude, and a smile. They loved caring for him because he made them feel appreciated and he acknowledged the incredible and difficult work they did in caring for people.

He leaves behind his wife Anne Johnston; their beloved daughters Mae and Cora; his mother Marlene and father William; his brothers William and Greg; his sisters-in-law Margaret and Melanie; and his mother-in-law Gaylene, brother- and sister-in-law Patrick and Heather; and so many dear friends who were close as family.  Each carries forward a part of his immense love and the memory of a life well and warmly lived.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate David’s life will be held, reflecting the joy and connection he brought to those around him.  Service details will be announced soon. 

Though Dave’s voice is now a memory, the stories, laughter, and love he shared continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy is not only one of great accomplishments, but of everyday acts of caring; not just travels or milestones, but of ordinary days made extraordinary by his presence. Rest peacefully, Dave. You are missed beyond words and remembered always.
