Arthur S. Jacobs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on September 27, 2022. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Frances (Hughes) of New York, New York, and his sister Rosemarie (Garrity). He is survived by his children: Jeanne Jacobs-Gaffney of California, Lynne Brecker (Michael) of Maryland, Catherine Doughten (Stephen) of New Jersey, Jennifer Halverson (Bill) of Pennsylvania, and Joseph Jacobs (Amy) of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Sarah Gaffney (Dylan Carlone), Kaitlyn Gaffney-Singh (Kavindar), Thomas Gaffney, Luke Brecker, Theresa Brecker, Bryan Copestick (Amanda), Stephen Doughten, Patrick Doughten, Beth Doughten, Aidan Halverson, Jason Jacobs, and his great-grandchildren, Cole Copestick and Charlotte Copestick. Art grew up in the Germantown neighborhood in Philadelphia. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon returning home he attended the University of Maryland and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English. He, his wife Frances, and his young family moved to the Roxborough neighborhood where he lived for many years. He continued his education at Temple University and received a Master’s degree. He taught English at Dobbins Technical High School in Philadelphia. He also worked as an aide at Friends Hospital for many years. Five years ago, Art moved to Cathedral Village in Andorra and was an active community member. Friends and family will remember Art for his kindness and generosity, his sharp wit and sense of humor, his love of music and literature, and his devotion to his family. His hobbies included walking, gardening, and cooking. A private funeral will be held at the John F. Murray Funeral home in Fourtown, Pennsylvania followed by the burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania.
