Joseph Michael Whitaker M.D. on Feb.3, 2017. Of Doylestown. Beloved husband of Elaine (nee McGovern) for 39 years. Dear father of Kirsten, Maureen, Brendan, and Colin (Emily). Grandfather of Owen. Brother of Sister Maryellen SSJ, Eugene Jr. D.M.D., Dorothea McGlaughlin, Regina Cuozzi, Patricia Blankemeyer, James, Catherine Beck, and the late John (Deborah). The greatest love of Michael’s life was his family. A faithful Catholic, he had strong principles and convictions along with an eagerness to debate them. Michael was educated by the Christian Brothers at La Salle College High School, where he met many loyal lifelong friends. He attended La Salle University, Hahnemann Medical College, and completed his orthopedic residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. A devoted and caring physician, during his 35 years of practice at Doylestown Hospital he was known for his compassion, intellect and wit. A man of varied tastes and talents, Michael had a gift for writing, a passion for reading literature, philosophy and theology, was a Founding Trustee of La Salle Academy, and an avid golfer.
