Suzanne White Frank

d. January 29, 2015

Suzanne White Frank, “Susie”, aged 90, died January 29. Married for 68 years to the late Armin C. Frank, she is survived by her 3 children, Gretchen Frank Carey, A. Carlyle Frank, Jonathan White Frank (Sarah), 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Susie traveled east to attend Connecticut College and later lived with her husband and family in Milwaukee, Schenectady, NY, Cleveland, OH and Stowe, VT, making many lifelong friends along the way. The family settled in Philadelphia in 1962 where Susie continued her passions for family, friends, horticulture and creative pursuits. An accomplished gardener, Susie graduated from the Barnes School of Horticulture and was a member of Four Counties Garden Club and the Herb Society. In addition, Susie served as a docent and guide at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for 20 years and was also on the Women’s Committee of the Museum of the University of Pennsylvania. Artistic and creative, Susie loved to knit, sew and paint in watercolors, but was best known for her beautiful and meticulous decoupage, which she studied for over 30 years. Susie loved the outdoors, and did not want to be contained! She traveled much of the globe, from St. Petersburg to India, South Africa and Asia with People to People tennis, skied in Europe and toured the pyramids of Egypt. She walked her beloved dogs in the Wissahickon daily, loved tennis, was an accomplished skier and an ever optimistic, albeit lousy, golfer. Her greatest joy, however, was her family and Susie, along with her husband Peppie, gave generously of their love, talent and experience to their children and grandchildren. Susie was always willing, if not always ready, and her ever-beaming smile and many Susie-isms will be fondly remembered. Susie has “folded her tent” and been “gathered up” but we will “absolutely” miss her dearly!
