Phoebe Hwei-Yueh Shih

Phoebe Hwei-Yueh (Chu) Shih, "Phoebe Kozuhowski", 86, of Flourtown, PA passed away from complications following a stroke on February 11th. She was born (May 23, 1927) and raised in Kunming, China with an older brother and sister and studied at the National Institute of Fine Arts, Hangzhou, China. In the early 50's she immigrated to the US and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Phoebe Shih (artist name) taught at the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts and at her home studio. Her watercolor paintings have been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums. She loved flowers, cats, nature shows, gardening, and opera. Her marriage to William Wei-Ming Shih lasted only a few years until his premature death in 1962. Her next marriage to Bernard L. Kozuhowski lasted several years and ended in divorce in the early 70's. She is survived by her children Oliver W. Shih and Helen J. Kozuhowski, and by extended family members in both China and the US. A memorial service will be held 11 am Sat, April 26 at Williamson Banquet & Event Center, 500 Blair Mill Road, Horsham, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA.
